Pat’s realistic paintings and her portraits developed out
of her earliest attempts to draw, at age three.
She always was fascinated by human faces and always found joy in the
smallest details,
whether in faces or in Nature.
|
As a mature artist,
she admires her predecessors who reveled in beauty of light falling on
surfaces,
in the illusion of three-dimensional space, in the attention to
details that might be overlooked,
but that have vitality and being in their own
right. In these, she finds sufficient
mystery for a lifetime
of study. Realism
will always be the bedrock of her painting no matter how far abroad
she may go
with experimentation and abstraction.
Since she strives to have her portraits be good paintings
as well, some works naturally belong to both categories and are also included
in the gallery of family portraiture. Enter Gallery

This group of more or less abstracted, expressionistic
paintings is Pat’s most personal work.
Whereas the realist paintings are often meditative in execution, these
works are intuitive and emotional.
They sometimes address deeply personal themes, utilizing symbolism,
gesture, texture, and other means of visual expression.
Some are so abstract as to leave
interpretation entirely open to the viewer. Others have recognizable subject
matter. It is her most experimental
work in technique, materials, and symbolic content. Enter Gallery
